I went to a regular school system ever since kindergarden including my freshman and sophmore year of highschool....and then homeschooled my junior and senior year? Does that put me in the homeschooled category when I apply to colleges?

Yes, you will be considered home-schooled, but different colleges will treat your application differently. If you are trying to go directly to a public four year college, they will look at the classes and grades you took soph and jr. year of high school, plus what classes you are in as a senior. Knowing you are currently home-schooled, they should be paying special attention to details - why you switched, how are you challenging yourself senior year, if you are taking community college classes at the same time. Public four-year colleges don't usually have the time to look at details - they are looking for grades, placement in the high school class, and your test scores. So you would have to apply for an exception to get admitted, in most cases.

Private 4-yr colleges will be more likely to look at your qualifications and home-schooling favorably, and you would have a chance to show/explain (thru essays, letters of recommendation, etc.) how your education has helped prepare you for college.

There is a wonderful new program at California State University Riverside for home schooled freshmen - you submit a portfolio of your work, and two faculty members who home schooled their own children will evaluate your work. It's a great public four-year - they are really trying to look at ways to develop programs for the bright home-schooled student!

Community college will let virtually anybody in - but it's a good alternative to trying to convince a four-year that you are college material. After completing two years, you could apply to a four-year as a transfer. After two full time years at a community college, the four-year college will be looking at your college grades, not where you went to high school.

Best of luck to you!

Yes. Most colleges require an essay, so you might take this opportunity to explain how homeschooling was different from public school (maybe even discuss some of the pros and cons) and how homeschooling has better prepared you for college.
