Always always keep some light on. Sit near the crib letting child know she will be alright. have pretty birds or items that make the environment comfortable. gently rub back or belly while humming a lullaby. remember to secure the crib remove all objects that can cause injury.

A regular routine. Be there when the baby wakes up and don't leave the baby to cry in the crib when they first wake up. Be prepared to listen to some crying at first because the baby is feeling separation anxiey and the crib is scary and foreign. Sleep on the sheets and blankets before you put them in the crib and get your scent on them. Your scent will comfort the baby too. Play the same music at bedtime. Start playing that music while holding the baby in a blanket in a rocking chair each time before you want the baby to sleep. Invest some time into a thoughtful regular routine and make sure you are not stressed out. Relax and enjoy the time and eventurally the baby will get the message. Be patient and take turns with your mate if you can.

I swear by whitenoise machines. The child doesn't hear all the outside noises (dogs barking, neighbors mowing, birds cherping) I also was very careful not to be too quiet around the house from the beginning. If a child gets used to going to sleep with no noise at all, they will expect it forever.
My doctors told me that children do not need nutrition in the middle of the night, after six months. They just get in the habit of waking up. You have to be the onethat decides weither you wantto contiue that cycle or not.
Its hard waking up, best of luck to you and your spouse getting some rest.

when my girls were born the min they got home from the hospital they were in there bassinet then as time allows i moved them to their crib. I will never put my girls in my bed. Even when they are older they don't come in my bedroom. I would say just put him or her there and yes will cry a few times. see how it works out that way. some people don't liek to see a baby cry so much. That is up to you.

Start with daytime naps so she can get use to it.
If she starts crying, it is good for baby's to learn how to put themselves to sleep. Once she gets used to taking naps during the day, Then it will be easier at night.
good luck and it might take a while but hang in there :)

little light and a sweet lullaby go a long way..if a soft rock and the ,lullaby don't work...I've had to take a trip around the block a few times a let them fall asleep in the car. It's soothing to them!

i put my son into his crib @ 7 months also. actually, i think he was happy to finally have extra room to move after being in a bassinette! 10 min "checks" to show him i was there was all it took and after a few nights, it was just routine.

Don't listen to those that recommend giving it rum. The child will sleep, and be quiet. It does work but I think it is considered illegal.
