i don't believe smoking should be made illegal. the U.S. was founded under the principles of freedom and choice. every
american SHOLD have the choice to be a smoker or non-smoker. i am not a smoker but i do feel if a person is addicted to cigarettes, why punish him/her for the habit. are you proposing that people caught smoking be sent to jail, after committing an illegal act of puffing on a cigarette. come on!

As a 45 year nicotene adict, I would like to see the manufacture and sales of cigarettes made illegal. Those assholes get filthy rich from us, lie to us, increase additives that make them more addictive and more dangerous to our health, and lie about it all the while.
I would lile to see the personal use and growing of tobacco left legal, as I DO NOT BELIEVE the government has the right to tell individuals what they can or cannot do to their own bodies (same for ALL recreational drugs). And ALL laws for that matter: no victim, no crime, right? Also, it is criminal that our governments (state and national) now tax cigarettes beyond all reason - so that true addicts and often their families as well go without necessities such as medications and healthy food, becuase they CANNOT HELP IT. I know as I have spent many 100's of dollars on various program, patches, pills, gums, accupressure, accupuncture, hypnosis, etc. and I STILL smoke, and I STILL hate being a smoker. OBVIOUSLY I would quit if I could. I have gone without insulin in order to get the damn things. It turns honest citizens into criminals when one state sells them at $50 a carton and another at $30 - but not legal to buy them in the cheaper state unless you pay the home state the other $20! How nuts is THAT?!?
If we all had to grow our own. then those who cannot go without would do so, but those who just casually smoke would not. In a decade or two there would be almost no new smokers and the problem would be solved. As for second hand smoke: bullshit! Especially outdoors. Non smokers shouldn't be able to tell me where I cdan and cannot partake of a legal substance. Statistics can be warped to show any desired reult, and that is what has happened with second hand smoke. My father died of lung cancer and never smoked a day in his life, nor did he work in a smoke fuilled environment, live with anyone who smoked, etc. But his death is listed in those same statistics as a tobacco related death!
As for everyone being a l ot healthier, cigarettes as far from the worst thing out there. Making potato chips illegal would save more health care dollars! Same for sugar based sodas, all fast food, even white flour!!!

I wish it had been when I was young. Then I wouldn't be suffering from respiratory problems, even though I quit a very long time ago. Everyone would benefit if smoking were declared illegal.

No ! How many individual rights are you will to give up ?
Each person has a free will/choice to decide for them selves.
The Government has NO Right to infringe on individual rights.
Whether it be smoking, abortion, etc.

If smoking was made illegal for health reasons, what would be next. Outlaw McDonalds because their food makes people fat?

NO! I will tell you why. There has to be something legal for the brain dead to do. The people that engage in the use of tobacco is one way to get rid of the lower end of the gene pool.

Well, sounds like a good idea to me but it won't ever be. I think all the smokers should live in a community together and behind confined walls too. Ugh, they stink.........

Making it illegal will not stop people from smoking just as making booze illegal didn't stop people from drinking during prohibition.
