Why are we all asking and answering questions, here? Is someone tallying our questions, and answers?

It seems to me, what with all the wire-tapping, eaves-dropping, Internet invasion of our privacy, going on - someone, somewhere is either 1) using these answers as a "poll" for their personal, political, or corporate advantage. Or, 2) The Internet provider(s) use this information as a means of establishing client interests, view points, or the like. What do you think? Please be creative - and serious-minded.
