First of all I challenge anyone who has said "spiritual image" to back that up with a scriptural argument rather than mere assertion. I would like to see one verse that says "spirit" has an "image." Go through all the scripture that says "image" and simply substitute "spirit" and see if the verse makes sense. The God of monotheism is totally anthropomorphic (made in man's image). This actually lends supports to Mormonism's view of God the Father in case no one has noticed.
As for God making us in His physical image resulting in our imperfection, note Adam and Eve were not created with imperfections. These resulted from the fall and passed to their descendants.
Having said all of that, the anthropomorphism of scripture is pure nonsense. We evolved on this planet from primates who evolved on this planet. How and why would The Father God have our form unless the Mormons are right and he's just the latest in a long chain of Gods who evolved as we have, back through eternity and we still don't know where the first one came from.

Interesting question. First ask yourself why would God require arms legs or a head. why would he need lungs or reproductive organs? So I dont think that the literal interpretation of man being in God's image is a trustworthy one. More likely we are creating God in our image...But there are some interesting passages in the Bible which brushes up on a duality of existance. Physical existance and spiritual existance. While it has never been identified scientifically, our spiritual selfs could be quite like the Spirit of God, in fact may even be an extention of it...

An image is always incomplete and imperfect. Think about a mirror image of yourself. For one thing, it is reversed from the way you think of yourself. For another thing, it is only 2 dimensional, instead of 3.
There is no way for us to know exactly in which ways we are incomplete and imperfect until we get to Heaven and actually see God.
So, if you really want to know the answer to this question, confess your sins to Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Savior and then you will get to go to Heaven and see the real God in all His completion and perfection.

These western religions confuse you b/c they are not giving you all of the information.......the image is actually his level of consciousness....which all can attain but right now we are too caught up in the physical aspects of it what it looks like and how we react to it......
Whether its Good or whether its Bad.....its all Good because God Created it....
much of the bad is just a way for us to understand the antitheses of True Good or True Light....the problem is majority of souls here still don't get it.

Since God is not physical, but a spirit being, it obviousely could not mean physically.
About the other, you've probably seen one of those T-shirts with, "God's not finished with me yet," written on it. Well, it's true; God's not finished making us into his image and likeness yet. So, it's not that God's imperfect, it's that we aren't perfect yet.

Yes,
Imperfect and perfect.
Created as creators.
Curiosity and knowledge.
Enlightened soul touches an asleep soul
Same loop though
Neverending process
Paradoxial even
But it's magnificent
We are adding knowledge to (god) by seeing this world the way we do. But that knowledge was already there, we just didn't see it.
But then again, someday we will use this knowledge to create earth later on.
peace friend

You're right to be confused. Pretty much all religions are intellectually incoherent - the least incoherent one that I've come across being Judaism, although Orthodox rabbis will still admit that the dietary laws make absolutely no biological or medical sense at all.
I wouldn't worry about it. You're half way to losing any faith you may have, and believe me, you're better off not listening to people who want to tell you what God wants you to do.

It means that God created us to hopefully be like Him. Well Adam and Eve were created in His image in the first place until they sinned and were n longer in His image.

He made Adam the first man in his own image and Adam didn't sin until Eve came along, or at least that is what it says in the bible. No wonder that some religions see women as evil.

In my years of study, it has become clear we are born in the 'spiritual' image of God. Otherwise, God would look like some kind of freak-show, with all the sizes, shapes, colors, and nationalities of people - don't ya think?
As I imagine God(dess) I imagine one who comes to me in a personal way. So, God may look different to me, than to you.
This is such a simple, yet, deep philosophical, theological issue - people have been discussing it for a millennia...
No easy answer, except to simply believe God IS!
