The folks that have answered previously are correct, but they have left out one important aspect: The Kurdish part of Iraq wants very much to be an independent country, and Turkey is very much opposed to that because Turkish Kurds would want to join them. Turkish Kurds have been blamed for terrorist attacks in Turkey for many years.

Well Turkey wants to get into the EU so that means they must behave themselves. So they are trying to stay out of things like a lot of other EU countries.
Also they wouldn't go to war with Iraq and support the US. 99% of Turkey is Islamic. They would never attack their own would they?

Because more than 90% of the population opposed the war and the parliament couldn't ignore that. We also tried very hard to explain US that it was a bad idea but there was no one to listen.
