You are really "an idiot". My Lai massacre is a war crime commited by U.S troops in Vietnam War. I think both government and military personnel were responsible for it. March, 16th 1968, a few guys under the command of Lt. William Calley were on their way to occuppy Son My village, Tinh Son district, Quang Ngai Province. They had raped woman and killed nearly all villagers there, 504 villagers had been killed in total; including 182 women and 172 children. Hugh Thompson, a chopper pilot, was the massacre hero. He threatened Calley's troops that he will shoot them, forced Calley to free 11 women and children. He later evacuated them to safety. But the camp where My Lai survivors had evacuted, was largely destroyed by ARVN artillery bombardment. Well, Calley then was sentenced life in prison but President Richard Nixon ordered him released from prison. Of the 26 men initially charged, Lt. Calley's was the only conviction. Varnado Simpson is an American soldier suffered torment because of the massacre. In an interview, he said he killed over 25 people, he also said he scalped and mutilated body. Hugh Thompson visited My Lai three times. When he died at the age of 63, the massacre survivors mourned him for saving their life and My Lai village arranged a thurification ceremony to remember his valiant deed

It's not a matter of belief. There are several eyewitnesses to the My Lai massacre whose stories corroborate each other.
It was wrong to make political hay out of it, but it was not wrong that Lt. Calley was prosecuted.

Alex P - That won't cut it where My Lai is concerned. For the best part most were women & children and they were lined up and slaughtered. US helicopter pilots were trying to warn peasants hiding in the fields to stay down.If you are man enough check out this link,

yes, my thought is that you are having problems with the cruelty or whatever, but look at it this way: during that time nothing was certain, a 5 year old child could come up to the soldiers, then suddenly pull out a granade or something and blow em all up - so at that point they (the soldiers) were pissed and didnt want to take any chances so they killed em all.

Believe in it? Its a fact that it happened. Why it happened was the only question.

Too bad. My dad fought in Vietnam. He could have been killed if stuff like this didn't happen.

How can anyone possibly deny it? To do so would be a stupid as denying the holocaust.
