Oh, those are horrible. Years ago I moved into a townhome I was so excited it was huge and rent was cheap. Yeah - because I had several thousand other guests living there. The german cockroaches are absolutely horrible and impossible to get rid of. They are lightening fast and can climb walls and escape into the tiniest cracks. They breed very quickly and lay the most eggs out of all the roaches. To be honest, I finally had to move away, throw away all my electronics (because they were inside), stick my stuff in storage for three months and bomb it and close the door. Seriously!

If you live in an apartment or something with common walls it will be harder. First of all you need to clean out all areas with food and spills. Get rid of cardboard, books should be in the least cockroach prone area (they like the glue), wicker, wood, damp spots and dark spots. Caulk all cracks with caulking including under sinks, faucets, pipes, cabinets, bathtubs, closets, everywhere. Buy Combat Roach Gel and line all the spots you saw the roaches. Put your trash can outside, cover it and throw it out often. Run the garbage disposal constantly and never, ever leave dirty dishes around or in the sink. Buy some boric acid and put a VERY LIGHT coating of dust under all appliances like washer, dryers, refrigerators, under cabinets (avoiding areas your children are or where food is) Wear a mask when you deal with dust, avoid inhaling, while not exactly toxic the dust does not feel good in the lungs and bothers your eyes. Also buy some baits, a good one is Hot Shot Nest Destroyer Roach Baits, put them in dark corners and under furniture. Then buy these little pills, they work great, I discovered them years ago (unfortunately AFTER I moved) and they are wonderful but very hard to find. You toss a few under appliances and heavy furniture and press them into corners (they are soft). They're called Harris Famous Roach Tablets and they look like this:

Do not bother with the sprays or bombs. They don't work, they stink and they coat your house with poison.

Then wait a few weeks. You should start seeing cockroach bodies face up all over the place. Keep up the fight and replace the roach baits, roach tablets, boric acid and combat gel every six months so they will not return.

HAHAHAHA Getting Rid of german roaches, that's soooo funny. PERMANANTLY?? HAHAHAHAAAAAAA
No seriously....all of the above advice is great, but once an infestation German roaches gets bad, that's the end. But there are things you can do to....lessen them.

Bomb your house. Pack away your dishes, take them away from the house. leave nothing that they can hide in, boxes, etc. I put all of my appliances in the floor before I did it, tried to get some poison to the ones that thought they were smart. Combat Roach gel is the *sh*t, get some of that and apply it to the cracks in your wall. That will kill what ever is left, and above all else, if you bomb, turn off the gas, and remember that the cockroaches can gain immunity to repeated brands of poison, so switch em up.

The best way is to use "baits". This may take a little longer for you so get rid of them but in long run is much more effective tahn sparying or suing bug bombs. Do some research on types and how u will apply.

Mix powdered sugar and borax (found on laundry aisle) 50/50 and put in a container for parmesan cheese with the big holes in it and place these containers (laying on their side so the roaches can get in&out of them easier) in corners/cabinets etc.. do not let kids/pets near these ...they come in for sugar ... get a little borax... carry home ...die-if you have kids or pets these are not a good idea at all

Boric Acid........... It comes in powder form. Put it in a squirt container { like a restaurant ketchup bottle}. Squirt it around the well traveled areas. they will pick it up and carry it back to the nest where they will clean it off and die.

I have done this and have not seen one in my house in over 2 years.

Get some of that dust stuff (don't know what it's called..) and put it around the outside perimeter of your house. Then spray bug killer on the inside around the perimeter.
