I was in the Navy. The Navy Seals are the special operations branch, similar to the Rangers in the Army and the Recon squad in the Marines. The coast guard are mostly a domestic police force on the waterways. An exception to this is some involvement in the "war on drugs" down in central America and in the southern gulf coast area; particularly Florida.

honestly it deff has to be the airforce my husband is a cop over seas but he is not located any where near a war he is competly safe and the great thing about the airforce is that u only go over for 4 to 6 months long which is regulation unless u volunteer to do a mission with the army or marines also you have a lot more benefits being in the air force opposed to any other branch

Historically, the branch of the US military that sees the least DIRECT exposure to war is the US Coast Guard (the USCG is placed under the control of the Navy during wartime).
If you're considering going into the military, you should realize that you may be called upon at any time to face wartime conditions, no matter what branch you are in or what your job specialty is.

Just to make it clear, Navy SEALS are not a military branch, they're obviously part of the Navy. Nor is National Guard which is part of the Army. Technically the Marines are a department of the Navy.

This 38 year old guy who works with my dad is in the Naval Reserve. He is into logistics and moving cargo and hasn't seen any combat since he joined when he was young. But last year he got called up for Iraq, and the made him a checkpoint guard in a very dangerous area. Absolutely ridiculous.

It depends on your job, not necessarily the branch. My husband is Navy and the majority of them have been to and are going to Iraq. He is a Seabee, and they travel to anywhere the marines are. However, the Air Force has the nicest bases, so take that into consideration.

I don't think the Coast Guard ever goes to war. Everyone else on that list has a possibility of going to war.
