They are for getting the ball down the fairway. The higher the number, the LESS further the ball will go (higher the loft). These are different from woods in that those go long and far but not so high. A 9-iron gets you about 110 to 120 yards for a good full swing.

Irons are numbered consecutively but the numbers have no other meaning. Irons are used for distances from 230 yds in to the green. The smaller the number the greater the distance and the lower the trajectory. Generally they are numbered from 1 Iron through 9 Iron with PW = Pitching Wedge, SW = Sand Wedge, and others called lob wedges.

Each iron is made to hit the ball a certain distance, and send it in a specific arc.The slant of the face of each iron increases as the numbers increase;for example, the 5 iron is sloped at a greater angle than a 3 iron, a 7 will have more than the 5,etc.The angle of the face will give more loft to the ball(7,8,9-high loft,4,5,6-medium loft,1,2,3-low loft). Remember, the higher the loft, the less linear distance the ball will travel.

Irons are used like any other club. The higher the number, the higher the arc and less distance you will get. They are usually numbers 1-9 with a PW(pitching wedge) or a SW(sand wedge). Depending on the distance of the shot, wind speed and direction, and the lie of the ball determines with club you will use.

Afraid the ball won't help you to minimize your handicap. Your long irons are your substantial difficulty. examine that the club face is unquestionably dealing with the direction you require. seems user-friendly yet it fairly is mostly a difficulty. in case you're reducing then the ball place is in line with possibility slightly too a processes lower back on your stance. try bringing it forward slightly and notice the way it is going. If it improves yet would not remedy then pass forward purely slightly greater. greater often than not the ball you employ would desire to be the oe which you're feeling top with. neglect the hype and make your very own selection. i admire a ball that makes a fulfilling "click" on effect as i've got faith that it fairly is the sound that denotes a nicely struck shot. i take advantage of Callaway balls consequently yet as a 2d selection the Srixon selection are nicely up there. For longer drives and intensely seems to do the trick yet I lose the texture on putting with them.

the lower the iron, such as 9 iron, is when ur closer to the hole.
3 irons and 2 irons are used from farther away, because of their loft. pitching wedges and sand wedges are usually for really close. and sometimes 7 irons are used to lay up on the green from the fringe.

I thought irons were another name for golf clubs...to hit the balls with. The different numbers on each club tells you the best club to use in a bunker,etc....are you serious?

Irons are for shorter and more controlled shots. Woods are for driving distance.
