If you can neither read nor write a DVD, I suspect the lens has become misaligned or is terribly dirty. Try cleaning with a CD lens cleaner.
You could always try taking the DVD-RW unit apart and cleaning the lens with a cotton bud and some CD lens cleaning fluid, but be careful. It's not really advisable to take the unit apart as the laser could cause serious eye damage.
I'm afraid if you can't get it to work, it looks like it's time to purchase a new one.

Did it work before ?, it may just be you need to change the master/slave option or re-install the drivers.
Failing that, contact LG with all the details of your problem and the model number of your Dvd rw.

Someone - either you or another - has possibly messed about with drivers or something.
My advice - go to the LG website and find your drive in teh product list and download new drivers, its always good to periodically download updated drivers anyway.

If it was working then obviously there is a glitch somewhere. Go to system restore and roll back to a date when it was working, re boot and hey presto it works again.
