I had a back tooth extracted by dental surgeon on wed. i had really bad pain straight after it was done. on sat a browny/red substace came out from the socket.Does this mean i have dry socket?The pain is still pretty bad.

Quite likely yes. Call the dentist...he can prescribe more meds.

Well it would normally hurt really bad right after, but if severe pain persists this would most likely indicate dry socket. The brown/red thing you mentioned could have been the blood clot which could also indicate the dry socket. Let your oral surgeon know and he could place a dressing in the socket to soothe it until the pain subsides.

Sounds like a dry socket is likely. Go back to the surgeon for EASY treatment to make it better.

you can swish with peroxide too and salt water, if it is brown and red then it is older blood and new blood, or there was an infection in the hole before the tooth was removed, you may need antibiotics, but if you don' thave a fever then there is not likely an infection. of you get a temp over 99 degrees then go to the dr!

he should have put a stitch in so u would get a dry socket but if u do have a dry socket u will know unbearable pain go back to doc

maybe the brown/red substance was dried blood that was left there. however the pain should be getting better I would ring the dentist to be on the safe side. maybe you have an infection and need some antibiotics. good luck

Take two Advil or something similar, swish gently with warm salt water several times a day.

it is normal for the redish stuff to come out of the hole. the doc will precribe more pain meds if you go back.enjoy i mean good luck

if your face swells up like a chipmunk then you'll know you have dry sockets
