Because it is smooth,sweet,sincere sounding, and oh so sexy.
Actually there are a multitude of southern accents depending on the state and region of the state. Real southerners do not sound at all like the Hollywood imitations of "the southern accent." I like the piedmont accent best, but it's fun to speak with an Appalachian accent too. I wish I were better at the Charleston, S.C. accents especially the Geechee accent. The coastal N.C. and Georgia accents are beautiful too. If you can still find an old-timer from Ocracoke an outsider might not understand him.

I don't love southern accents. There are lots of people who have obnoxious southern accents, and only a few that have nice ones.

Who says we love the southern accent? I only like down to Maryland, below that it makes people sound ignorant. I'm sorry to say but that's how I feel. I guess I'm just a stuck up yankee.

I hate it and I lived down South so I practiced talking as articulate as possible so I wouldn't sound like them, it sounds so ugly to me it always did. I won't even date a Southern guy....YUCK!

I DON'T!!!!! I'm from the South and I f%$#ing hate it!!!!!! I wish I was never born there! I wish that I could've been born in New York City, Boston, ANY city in California, or San Juan, Puerto Rico. Too many rednecks here!!!!!!!!!!!!
