Couldn't Koko the Gorilla from the San Diego zoo do a better job?
Even a Romanian painter could do better

Touzours, I am surprised your here since this isn't the football section. I'll have you know that when I paint I stay in the lines which is more than I can say for Matisse.
He lookes like he can't even connect the dots properly

All artists get recognized because someone of authority says they like their work... it's the same way with bands and writers. Sure, they all have fans, but until someone takes a chance on them, they are "just another artist". Anyway, you don't need to respect Matisse because he was a "talented painter" as much as you're to respect him for his style and influence on other modern artists...
Talent comes in many forms, and you obviously just prefer more realistic true-to-life types of art. Maybe like Michelangelo or Velazquez.
Some people listen to Vivaldi and some people listen to Cannibal Corpse. It's the beauty of variety.

You may not like his work but only a loser would be incapable of recognizing the artistic genius in his paintings. He not only created abstract paintings, he knew how to draw realistically as well (as did Picasso). I can assure you that anybody that appreciates Matisse is no loser. I think you have it backwards.

Sometimes an artist is great not because he created beauty but because he saw things in a different way and opened a different path.Matisse is one of those cases.

Art is subjective, what looks like a drunken gorilla painted passes for "art" some places.

Go look up "postimpressionism" and "cubism,", and especially "Fauve."
You're entitled to not enjoy his work. I'm entitled to enjoy it and don't deserve your criticism.
