Does it make you nervous when you hear a plane flying overhead and it sounds low? I live near an airport, but I am not worried, I am used to it. Now you're turn, tell me about your experience. Thanx in advance.

I live near one of the busiest airports in the U.S., the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, NV and YES! I do get nervous whenever I hear a low flying aircraft. It's always in the back of my mind that something may happen one day, with thousands of flights leaving and arriving everyday. I would probably feel the same way even if the Septmber 11th mess never happened.

I would not want to live in the approach or takeoff path of an airport. I do live near an airport, about three miles away, but not in the flight path. There have been at least five crashes in the last 15 years that I know of, most of them fatal, including people on the ground. The second-to-last one was in 2004, and I had a ticket to ride the plane that crashed. It crashed in the street on a test flight right in front of me and 300 other spectators that it barely missed on its uncontrolled liftoff. The last one was last year when some idiot hit a radio tower on approach to the airport because he was flying too low and failed to notice the tower, which had been there for at least 30 years. All of them were pilot error. Needless to say, I will not be taking any rides on anything but commercial airliners from now on, and I am just a bit jittery when low-flying aircraft buzz my house.

Yeah I used to live near Vancouver International. I love looking at the low flying planes. At YVR there is everything from 747s to Cessna 185s on floats. We used to camp out at the end of Runway 26L just to see them REAL low!

While I lived there a DC-3 lost an engine on takeoff and crashed while trying to return to the airport. But I never at anytime, even after the crash, felt nervous about the planes flying overhead.

I live near an airport, at least kind of. Whenever I'm driving by the place and see the planes getting down it does make me a little nervous, but not as much as when I first moved here.

I live around 15 minutes drive from the International Airport (New Delhi) in India. I get thrilled when aircrafts pass over my residential area...and I am also a student pilot. Moreover on my business trips on a particular sector when I fly with an airline I can spot the location where my house is situated, when the aircraft takes off and start banking immediately while gaining hieght! Really!.

Live less than 2 miles from an international airport. We hear the aircraft all the time. That being said, I have lived near airports or on Air Force bases almost all my life. Never been crashed into yet. Don't worry about it, either.

If something crashes into my home, wouldn't be anything to feel or see. One minute we'd be here, the next we're pink mist.

I live near one of the busiest airports in the Unitd States, and no, I'm not worried.

Because I am a pilot, though, I do get worried when I see planes flying low where they shouldn't be. It usually means someone is in trouble or breaking the law.

i used to - in three other cities i lived in, but not now. living near an airport takes getting used to and if you are asking us what to do, it's not easy. many people bought the cheap swamp/farm land that was near a small airport . they were put into the cheaper suburbian areas to avoid noise and when most people lived uin the city. as airports grew up they became noisier and harder to live next to/ suburbia rushed in and the noise/squeeze was on..
This leaves you with three options: 1) sell the land and move after getting it rezoned commercial (makes you more money), 2) they have new ear plugs that let in "wanted sounds" like talking and music, while blockin out "screech sounds" as horns/planes landing/taking off if you can't or won't sell.., and 3) learn to live with it by installing sound quenching materials in your house or attic, then being greatful for close access when you go to fly &/or rent out long term parking spaces on your land for other travelers. if the airport was large and there when you moved in -then it's your own fault and you shouldn't complain. hope this helps.

i currently live next to a small town airport, KPLK, and as a pilot i am not worried. However, i do worry for the traffic that passes by the end of 29, as an aircraft accident happened there a couple of years ago.
