A little of both. They kind of feel their way.
Seriously, if the partners are open and communicative, they will get the basics without help, but curiosity and a few books won't hurt the learning process.
The main thing that messes up a couple's first sexual experience is embarrassment, so talking about it, using real words like vulva and scrotum so there's no confusion, would really help, especially if done for weeks before the event.
But that never happens, that I know of, unless it's a virgin couple in pre-marriage counseling.
Those who are telling you it's instinct are kind of right, but I don't believe they are remembering their first experience! It's scary and messy, and usually not all that fun the first time. But it DOES get better. Much better.

its natural. human instinct. to a degree. some is instinct, but most is learned. having a sex with a virgin sucks though.

Both. You see animals having sex and see how they do it and you can pickup books and read about sex. Wait to have sex until your married it will make it that much better.
