This is is someone who use to be very confident and optimistic.But at a point in time when as he grows things tend to change, he feels very uncomfortable with people around to the extent that he finds it hardto talk to a lady on the high street or even in the supermarket. he's in his late 20's and has not a girlfriend. this is how worse the situation is.

First, this someone has to be the one who wants to change.
You might think I am crazy but I actually went to a bookstore to find me a nice book about this very subject, I cant remember the title but I do remember that i had to look at myself in the mirror everyday and say out loud all the good qualities I have or even think I might have, and it did help honest to God.
Then there is this thought you have to keep like if I do this whats the worst that'll happen, and what ever i would create I would then say its worth it!
But this person has to learn to be happy about himself, has to feel secure, and to feel is to be... take communication courses, go to places you feel good in....ect

It sounds like there are other dissapointments at play here. I think the best way to rebuild confidence is by succeeding at something that interests you.

Doesn't sound too bad to me..just give him time and don't be over dramatic.
