You can use it in your foyer or hallway to store things in. Put a runner, lamp and candles or favorite photos on it. Store things that you need as you go out the door. Gloves, hats, etc. Or make a drawer for bills if you don't have a desk. I used to have a hall tree in my foyer with a bench seat. I would put anything that I had to return to someone or to a store in it, so I always knew to look there for any "returns." If you have children, assign a drawer for each child to keep the things they need before leaving for school in the morning. You could also use it in the dining room to store tablecloths, placemats, napkins. Experiment!

You can use it for more than one thing (as everyone else has told you...Mab your answers are great too.

I did the same thing with a beautiful antique dresser: put it in your mud room, or near your front entrance. Place a runner on top, a basket for your mail, and if the dresser has small drawers at the top, use these to collect your mail, ads you get that you want to keep, papers and bills to deal with, etc. In the other drawers, use them for hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, etc. If you live where you don't need winter clothing storage, use it for summer hats, beach bags, etc. You can also let your kids have a drawer each to keep their school work and projects, etc. in. Like mab said: experiment. And it would look great with a granite top, which will also protect it. And to get a piece of granite that size is dirt cheap.

some great ideas here already.
You could use it as a buffet in a dining room or a large kitchen.

Put on a runner with buffet lamps or candlesticks, and a bowl of fruit.

Or, in a family room with a TV on it. You could use the drawers to store DVD's, CD.s
photo albums, games, etc.

Use it for storing Blankets and sheets. Place an antique vase and bowl on the top of it and maybe a decorative touch lamp.

Put some fancy hardware on the drawers, maybe a stencil or two, if you like that kind of thing and use it as media storage in the living room.

Well I use mine for linen. Or you can use it for your sewing stuff if you sew, or craft items. As for decorating, you can put some old style knobs on it or a plant.
