A mensch is Yiddish for a "good man" (a good guy, someone who does good for others and everyone; reliable, trustworthy, honorable, very decent and caring). My ex-high school coach and my closest buddy of 43 years each exemplify a mensch; and I can only try to be like them.

• Mensch (n.) One who does good deeds: He is a real mensch, the kind of guy you can always count on.
