Brent ~
I feel like a traitor for even answering this question. Alexis is a legend and Marco is well on his way of becoming a legend. This would be a very good fight, but in my opinion Alexis was just too good of a boxer for Marco. Marco has just recently started using his boxing abilities in the past 3 or 4 years and in his prime he was your typical Mexican worrier and would stand there and go to battle, toe to toe, he really didn't change his style until after his two bouts with Junior Jones (Great Fights) Marco got hit as much as he hit the other guy.
Alexis was always a great boxer, he had a way to make brawlers look foolish (Mancini) with the exception of his fights with Pryor but they were at a completely different weight. Alexis straight punches would make all the difference in this fight , his jab would keep Barrera off balance and he would cut him up and stop in the 10th round. None of today's guys would be able to touch Alexis in his Prime at Featherweight Morales, Pacquiao or Barrera.
Thanks Brent for a tough, tough question.

I'd give it to Barrera...Arguello was as smooth of a fighter as you'll ever see but he had trouble with guys with power (like Aaron Pryor). Barrera might not have the heavy hands that Pryor did, but we know from his three classics against Erik "El Terrible" Morales that he can take a punch and that he can thrive in a war. Arguello never showed the toughness that Barrera does. This isn't to denegrate Arguello--he was a great fighter and a very classy guy--but I'm afraid that unless he's allowed to bring a lead pipe into the ring that he's not beating Barrera....both guys are skilled boxers, but Barrera is a flat out tougher guy. He gets the win here...

Barrera is a warrior and will never stop, but he takes just as many punches as he gives,Arguello was a master at slipping some of those punches,we must remember,in boxing, the object is to hit and don't get hit back, both Barrera and Arguello in his prime were good punchers and they both had a lot of heart, but Arguello would have an edge in boxing skills, the fight would end, considering we had honest judges,El Nica by decision

Berrea - W 63 (KO's 42) TF 68 - W pct 91% - KO pct 62% - wins over Benevides, Tapia, Morales and Juarez{2} - KO'ed by Pacquiano
In 2004 ranked as #15 best current pound for pound fighter

Arguello - W 82 (KO's 65) TF 90 - W pct 91% - KO pct 72% - wins over Castillo, Boza-Edwards, Chacon, Olivares, Escalera{2}, Mancini and Watt - KO 'ed by Pryor[2] - #20 ranked puncher - #20 ranked fighter
Won titles at 126, 130 and 135.

To me, this is a mis-match and no-contest bout. Arguello out-boxes, out-punches and out-classes his opponent. I call this a walk over/thru. Arguello in a KO before or by rd 10.

Wow great fight between two great fighters. I believe that this would be a classic fight and a war. I believe that Arguello captures a split decision victory in this fight. Good question sir.
