This is driving me nuts. What is the area just below your nose, and above your upper lip called? I'm talking about the little grooved area right in the center; where a man (or frightening woman) would grow a Hitler-style moustache. Am I making sense here?

I'm looking for an ANATOMICAL answer only, no rude or moronic answers or I'll have you flagged.

The first 3 answerers gave you the right answer. It is Philtrum. Just an elaboration: The philtrum derived from a Greek word philtron, from philein, ) which means "to love". It is the vertical groove in the upper lip, formed where the nasomedial and maxillary processes meet during embryonic development. When these processes fail to fuse fully, a hare lip can result. The lack of a philtrum can be considered a symptom of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

This is also a good spot to use to control a person. Place one finger there, just below the nose, and tilt their head back slightly. Then ask them to get up from a sitting position. They will not be able to.
