As you found out for yourself, speaking is different from just listening and reading.
There is nothing you can do by yourself. You have to find competent speakers and talk to them. Don't worry if you sound a bit silly at the beginning, that happens to everybody, and most English speakers are very good at being patient with beginners.
I'd recommend you join a conversation course, you'll meet other people in the same situation.

A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of online courses which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt

Reading out loud might be some help if you are alone. But you will not know if you are pronouncing words correctly. English is a very difficult languge because there are so many words that have the same spelling but are prononounced differently as well as having a different meaning. Talking with a fluent person will be great and there is always TV and Radio to get some exposure also.

The more television you watch or radio you listen to in English will help you become more fluent when you speak, because you will be more used to the sounds of the words. Also, if you can, you should try studying abroad in an English-speaking country if you are in a country who's first language is not English.

My native language is English, and I studied abroad in Spain. I can speak Spanish a lot better now, and it was an awesome experience :). You should try it too but w/ English!

I have the same problem with spanish...my written is fluent but I stumble with the spoken. One thing that I have found has helped: as I write, I read the words aloud. Every time. Drives my husband nuts, but it makes my mouth feel more comfortable with the words. Also reading aloud any written material can help; so will listening to others and repeating what they say (television is great for this!)

Practice, practice practice....my Grandmother came here from Romania and learned English by watching and repeating tv/radio shows to herself. By the time I came along she had even managed to loose her accent for the most part even though Romanian was spoken in her home....thank you for learning the English language...It really is a difficult language...especially if you are learning American English...which is quiet different from the King's English. Good Luck!

Practive practice practice!

Also, there are speech therapists who can help you with sounds in the English language that may be more difficult for someone with a different native language to pronounce.

Anyone who learns a foreign language starts out like that. I suck at French and Spanish. Go figure!

Read things out loud. It will take some practice to intuitively know know things like tenses and which syllable is the more pronounced in certain words.

If you write English good, speak it as you write it.

b) Listen to the radio in the morning, specifically talk radio, it will help a lot, plus get you more fluent in the street version of English, along with pronunciation
