GREETINGS!!! My Yahoo Answers "name" is DisabilityLady. My disease is MS instead of Lupus, but they are both what are called "Autoimmune" diseases.

Here are my qualifications for answering this question.

1) I was an HR Executive for over 30 years; I've been successfully managing Multiple Sclerosis for over 45 years.

2) I was approved for SSDI the first time around in under 30 days; I was approved for, and worked with LTD.

3) My passion and mission are to assist people with disabilities qualify for and acquire the resources they need to successfully become Expert Patients, and chronic disease self-managers. Toward that end, I created a website dedicated to assisting people with disabilities. It contains tons of info; 2 blogs; free downloadable ebooklets; and a small priced 100 page How To with specific examples and documents Disability Workbook: http://www.disabilitykey.com

4) I have been, and am, assisting hundreds of people with disabilities worldwide. (I recently assisted my 526th person.)

Now, to answer your question.

First of all, and most importantly, the criteria for ANY AND ALL disability insurances - SSA, SSDI, AND/OR LTD are NOT your symptoms!! This is the mistake most folks make. Here are the criteria:

Do your symptoms impair your NORMAL DAILY LIVING ACTIVITIES - both at home and at work - to such a degree that you are not able to perform any "gainful employment" for which your age, education, and prior work history can equip you to perform, that can earn you at least the minimum of $830/month as of 2006!!

AND, the documentation of this symptom impairment, and the corroboration of that documentation by doctor chart notes and letters, is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, IF YOU WANT APPROVAL!! If you leave the collection of the documentation and corroboration to others, your chances of approval are greatly decreased.

Social Security itself states that:

1) 60% or more cases are denied the first time around.

2) 80% are denied during the appeal process.

3) If you are at first denied, the process can take up to 4 years to go through the entire process.

So, if you want assistance, please check out my website. You may also contact me by clicking onto my disabilitylady name here through Yahoo. If you are interested, I'll send you the process I used, along with the forms, to assist you in your application process.

FINALLY, I'd advise you to visit a "Virtual Village" online:
