I keep seeing people mention him in their answers, but I have never heard of him. Who is he?

He is a Doctor in southern CA. He had a large pediatric practice and a large family. At least one of his sons now is practicing too and his dil is a LLL leader. They are advocates of attachment parenting and promote gentle discipline. He had a son with Down's too. He used to lecture frequently, then started book writing. Attachment parenting was around before Dr Sears was popular, but many have linked him to it as an expert on the subject. During the early 80s it was all about Brazelton & Penelope Leach taking off from what Dr Spock started, then he kind of stepped in as Doctor 'en vogue'. He is a genuniely nice guy that is well liked. I am so glad to see him gain popularity to balance out the other movement towards extreme Ezzo parenting fanatics.

He and his wife and two sons are parenting consultants. http://www.askdrsears.com/about.asp
They have some good ideas, but I don't agree with all that they say. They have a great article about spanking that's been a hot topic on parenting questions in Yahoo! Answers.
