I don't think Christians can drive a true Christian (someone who truly accepts Jesus as their savior and loves him with all their heart) away from Christianity. I think Christians OFTEN drive other Christians away from a particular church, or the idea of church altogether.

The sad part is that we (Christians) often drive SEEKERS away from Christianity. I'm not sure God is going to forgive us for that one.

Sure can. I went to Sunday School when I was a kid.

Mrs. Wilson, the teacher, told us lies, like "the wine mentioned in the Bible was really grape juice." "Hold a cup of water in your hand with your arm outstretched. You can't do that very long. God does that all the time, with the entire ocean!"

The other kids in the Sunday School class were jerks and bullies -- no different from those who didn't go. I hated it. At some point I said it out loud: "If these jerks are going to Heaven, that's one place I hope I never go."

Through high school, I was therefore an agnostic. Now I'm a Pascalian Protestant, which is as close to being an agnostic as you can get while still being a Christian.

Sadly, those who call themselves Christians can drive a lot of people away from church.
I have to say the most vindictive, the most narrow minded and judgmental people I have met in my life where those who called themselves "born again" Christians. Where they "true" Christians? Only God can make that final judgement. According to them, I am going to hell now....((shrugs))
Only God knows my heart, and at least I can be around people who don't find some warped feeling of superiority when looking down on "the lost"
Am I claiming ALL CHRISTIANS are like this? NO WAY!!!

I'll get a lot a torments about this, but yes. Some Christians can be so mean and nasty that they can drive a lot of Christians away. Not just that, they make other Christians look bad and unsaved people will use that as a reason to not give their lives to Christ.

I was one of them. I always said "I can get the same attitude I get in church outta church". But the older I got, I realized your living for the Lord and not people. So, my advice is SHAKE IT OFF. God has the last word, not man.

Yes. Some christians are to 'strict' or legalistic. This sometimes makes other christians feel that they cant meet the standards. They might be to preechy about something and make other christians feel unwelcome. It is sad but true that sometimes unsaved people are more friendly and accepting then 'christians' are.
Some CHristians go to church and act good, but then you see them doing bad things outside of church. Many christians dislike this kind of behavior, and when they see one person doing it they assume the whole church does, so it drives them away.

Sadly it certainly can. Sometimes the very people you expect to be the most supportive when you're going through rough waters can cut your heart out with a cruel word. It's then that I need to remember the church is an intensive care unit for a whole bunch of messed up people who are there because they need to be saved from themselves and often prove it with their words or actions.

Yes, many groups are very intolerant. They will even picket against other Christians at places of worship.

That's OK because the Savior said "Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets."

No, but they can drive other Christians away from places of worship!!

They can cause a new Christian to stumble and slow their growth and walk with God.

But they cannot take away their belief in God once they truely believe it.

They can sure make you wonder. I work with a bunch who have prayer meetings and they sure can refuse to cooperate with you, talk about you behind your back, stab you in the back... just like the regular people they are. We all have our own sins and Christians are no exception.
