Pretty cold, but there are plenty of indoor things to do in NY. You could take the kids to the Museum of Natural History and then the Planetarium which is attached. Also, there are plenty of other museums. There is the subway museum underground which could be really fun for kids. Make sure to see a Broadway play that is appropriate for kids. Take them to Jekyll and Hyde or Serendipity... or if you have girls you can take them to the American Girl Doll House for tea... there is also a Japanese Cultural Center where you can get tea in a traditional Japanese ceremony, and also learn other things. You can take them to Benihana where they cook food at your table and it's a lot of fun. There is the Sony building with a free and interactive exhibit which is SO fun for kids. They get to play with all of the new technology. There is the NBC studio tour, and free TV shows you could attend if you like... since it's February, there won't be such long lines and you can probably get tickets in advance. Have a good time!

Be prepared for the cold. It was freezing last February. The snow was blown sideways by the wind and when it hits your face brrrrrrrr! You also have to be prepared to be cold out on the street and then hot in all you go in. With the constant changes in heat and cold it's so easy to bring out the cold/flu bug. If it snows make sure you get to the airport a lot earlier when you are leaving.

I wondered the same thing when I was deciding whether to go in December. I looked up the NYC weather history on Wunderground.com.
It's GREAT! You can look up current or historical weather for many years past.
I've listed the link for NYC below. Look midway down the screen and you'll see a place to look up historical weather. For example, Feb 2005 varied from 30 to upper 40s.
I think it WILL be cold (for us, we're in the southwest) but nothing that lots of layers can't help with, or lots of cab rides to indoor places.
Good luck.

Too cold for kids.

In fact, all the kids in New York leave the city around January.....

There is a ballot proposal in the November election requiring capital punishment for anyone irresponsible enough to bring children into New York during the winter months.

Usually people ship children out to the warmer climates such as Maine and Minnesota during the winter.

It is still a bit cold in February. Most kids should be fine, but if you have young children (like toddlers or younger), I would wait another month.
