I have a telephone wiring coming up through my floor and am trying to put a phone jack on it. But there is a problem my wires aren't red black green and yellow. The wires are blue, orange, white with pinstripe orange, and white with pen stripe blue. Please help me hook up my phone jack if you know.

Blue with white stripes
White with blue stripes
these are the two that conect to your phone.

Get the telephone engineer to do it because you could mess up your phone or the telephone system.

this is a internal 4 wire we use these in the UK the blue and the blue white go together as do the orange and orange white in the UK you get a line jack unit (socket) the blue wire goes to position 2 the orange wire goes to position 3 the orange white goes to position 4 and the blue white goes to position 5 the blues are for Dial tone the orange makes the telephone ring because the lju does not have a capacitor in it. these are easy to fit and you can save yourself a fortune by doing it yourself and not calling the phone company .telephone engineer UK

What you're probably dealing with is CAT5 cabling. Blue and blue/white represent Line 1, orange and orange/white Line 2.

Assuming Line 1 is the live phone line, attach blue and blue/white to the red and green terms on your jack and test with a line tester or a corded phone to make sure you've got dialtone.

If Line 2 is not live, you can loop the orange and orange/white wires, making sure you don't touch the terms. Safe thing to do would be to attach them to the black and yellow terms.

The best I could find, as I usually wire as I match them from the jack, is to check the two websites I listed below.
I usually will test if I am not sure which is which.

I would try the second one I listed, as it shows some pictures that help explain it a little better.
Good Luck

Try the blue and orange for the 1st line and the other 2 if you have a second line. Usually it would be red and green but other cable color codes would start with the blue/orange.

I stand corrected...it is blue/white, white/blue for the first line and orange/white, white/orange for the second line. This should be drilled into my head.

You can get a phone line tester (just a little box you plug in with green and red led lights on it) at Radio Shack to check your connections after you make them... it is better than messing up a phone... or the telephone companies equipment.. if you make a mistake.
