Unfotunately, religious beliefs on every side bring out both the best in people and the worst in people. When people are so emotionally tied to a set of beliefs they do things that they would not normally do outside of those beliefs.
The pope has strong convictions that the Catholic church is the true church and that it has held the authority of God since Jesus and the Muslims believe that they are in the right. It is sad to see this discord on both sides, but understanding how strong this emotional tie to beliefs is starts to help us understand why they do what they do.

let me put it this way.
1- Muslims Love God and his holy Prophets more than any thing you can imagine.
2- Muslims are willing to defend God and his Prophet with their Lives.
3- Muslims are angry because the wounds of the insulting cartoons are still fresh and here comes the POPE with another insulting statement to Prophet Muhammed.
4- Muslims feel that there's a war against Islam and Muslims. and you can't blame them when all they see is Muslims dying in Iraq and Palestine and Lebanon and Afghanistan.
5- Muslims (Arabs) are hot blooded unlike the northern Europeans, Muslims in the middle east tend to get angry very quickly.
6- if you stop insulting our religion and our dear Prophet, Muslims will stop protesting and going crazy because they wouldnt find something to piss them off.
7- Muslims went on a silent march today in the middle east. thousands marched the streets silently holding signs that are NOT offensive at all. have you seen them?
8- you don't see the peaceful marches you only wanna watch the burning of churches to prove your opinin on Muslims.
9- Muslims have every right to be crazy because the statement made by the Pope is a lie and gives a bad impression about the holy Prophet and Islam.
10- the Pope is a leader of more than 1.5 billion catholic who take his words LITERALLY.

It is a shame the Pope apologized for a simple historic citation.
Our religious authorities get killed, our symbols get burned and irrespected everyday and nobody ever apologize.
Shall we continue bending to the islamic blackmail to the free world?

Because they want to have a reason for killing non-Islamic spiritual believers. This has been going on for quite some time but hardly hit the papers. Now they pretend to have a reason for it.

Of course it's stupid, and this murder has no excuse. But I think the pope is somehow responsible for that nun's death.
