My son wrote a poem to a little girl at school, they are both 9 years old, the poem was:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Sugar is sweet
And so are you
Nobody in the world is as sexy as you.
The mother of the girl has come into the school going mad and has demanded that my son is kept away from her daughter and that my son be 'dealt' with.
What do I do?

I have spoke to my son and he thought that 'sexy' means looking nice, he said it's in lots on songs and things and thought it was a nice thing to say. I have tried to talked to the mum but she is having none of it, my son has tried to say sorry but she was very blunt to him and told him to stay away.He is really upset and confused.

You stick up for your son cos this is pathetic.
Sexy is an everyday word now it's mentioned on tv, magazines etc all the time and I very much doubt your son meant it in a sexual way he just knew the word was complimentary.
Don't let that mothers paranoia ruin your sons innocence and childhood because your son doesn't see life in a sexual way like that woman obviously does, she is the one with the problem not your son.
Yes, our children need to be watched over but not to the extent of making sexual comments out of a childlike statement of friendship cos that is all it is

Oh that's sad, of course your son means no harm by it. Children are exposed to quite adult words from a very young age now because of TV etc. He is of course just expressing a perfectly innocent infatuation with the little girl which should be seen as sweet and natural. you probably can't do anything about the other Mum, people have all sorts of personal issues, but the most important thing is to talk to your son and let him know why the other parent has overreacted (ie. grown up words) and that he is not to blame at all and encourage him to talk about his affection for the little girl. Its essential he shouldn't think that the little feelings he's beginning to experience are dirty or bad or that he is in some way "perverted" for expressing them. You want him to grow up and have healthy happy relationships and above all be able to talk to you about them. Give him a hug and perhaps have a chat with his teacher about maybe talking to the class n a subtle way about it.

i have a nine year old daughter and if she came home with that i would laugh and think its sweet. the little girl you talk of might come from a very strict home where the word "SEXY" just isnt used. Still, that is a bit of an over reaction. I would write a letter or get your son to write a letter to the other mother explaining that it wasn't meant to offend and it wont happen again. I would also speak to the school and explain how you feel aswell.

I think the other parent might have overreacted a little bit - but if that was my daughter I would have done something too. For a 9 y/o to be writing that a girl is sexy is disturbing. At 9 years old your son shouldn't even understand what it is to be sexy or anything on that level.
You should talk to the parent and apologize and also talk to your son about why he wrote that. You need to explain to him why what he did was wrong and why he isn't allowed to talk like that.

I feel sorry for your son! Poor kid! My daughter is 9, so I can relate to both sides of this story. But, some mom's are nuts!! That is the truth. A boy in my daughters class patted her bum last year. And he got in sufficient trouble with the school so there was no need to freak out on the boy, or his mom - and he touched my daughter!! We talked about it - a few times. And that is what I think you should do with your son. Tell him that he didn't do the right thing, but neither did that mom. Help him to understand that some people over react to things and its time he finds another girl to write poems to. Tell him to talk to you about what he want to write, or do, or say, so that no other mom freaks out on him. Consider this a learning experience for both of you. He is obviously a very sweet boy.

WOW this is deep.
my eldest is nearly 15 and when she was in primary school there was a wee boy that I had to go and see the head of the school because. And it was not because of a god dam poem.
This wee man was so lovely and so cute but his up bringing was slightly different to the norm and his actions were slightly ahead of his time. Lets just say it was sexual but to the point of it was nipped in the bud.
As for your boy he is 9, the same age as my youngest now and if she came home with a poem I would say how sweet it was, my 9 year old comes home with presents, I have even had to take some of them back into school to give to the mum as it has been quite allot of money in value, so your boy is not doing anything wrong babe he is so sweet and it is shameful that he is to be punished for a poem. He has not touched her or said anything out of order so calm down and just ignore it, you are a mum and if you thought you wee one was in any kind of danger you would have made arrangements to get her out of there.
p.s would love to know how you get on

Well as i am a mother of a little girl i think this is a total overreaction, If that had been my daughter i would have spoken to you about it, then i would have realised that it was all harmless then spoken to my daughter and then we are all ok arent we?! if we dont communicate with each other how are thekids going to learn?!
I shouldnt worry just make sure your son knows what's going on dont let him be confused tell him that this little girl's mum is only worried for her daughter and its nothing he's particually done. talk to the school they might be able to help if they are half decent.. trust me i understand if they're not!

I can understand the Mother of this girl being a bit distressed by this poem, but, this is probably a kneejerk reaction because shes just protecting her little girl, I doubt either of the children really fully understand the undertone of the poem anyway, and Im sure when the mum calms down a little she will understand that too.

I wouldn't say it's an overreaction as such. Some mums are over protective I suppose but you can understand her wanting to keep her little girl away from such things for as long as possible.
I wasn't allowed to use the word sexy either at that age but times have changed.
How would you feel if your little girl came home with that note?
Perhaps if you got to know her mother then you may get the chance to explain that it's all innocent even if it doesn't sound like it!
I can understand your point of view but don't blame her, it shows she cares.

Your son just doesn't quite understand the meaning of 'sexy'. What he has said is harmless because he didn't understand what it meant. If you just explain to him what it means to adults and that is why the mum was upset I am sure it will all blow over.
It is more the fault of the other parent being a bit thick or she would have realised that nothing sleazy was meant by the poem.
