There are no laws on piercing in the UK per say, studios will however have restrictions on how young a child will be and I would think it would be common sense that any younger than ten years old would no one would be willing to perform the piercing.
This is not just because it is pretty disgusting to mutilate a child's body for the parents vanity and a breach of human rights to a degree because a child cannot fully make that decision themselves, but also because a young body does not have the means to deal with such trauma and so infection and body-shock serious risks, thus putting the child's health and life at risk.
Obviously there are places that 'pierce' infants, this however is not piercing, and an example would be the likes of Claire's accessories where they use what is known as a piercing gun. Simply this is not piercing; this is using a tool that is not even deemed suitable for branding cattle and not sterile to shoot a blunt piece of metal into a persons flesh. Piercing guns are a health risk not just because of potential damage if the gun goes off accidentally but because they shoot blunt metal into the flesh there is higher risk of scaring, miss positioning, and body shock. As piercing guns cannot be sterilised it means that as well as increased risk of infection there is also a real risk of the gun passing on hepatitis B and similar.
No good piercer will pierce an infant, no good piercer will use a piercing gun and no one with sense would get a piercing done by anyone other than a professional because they are not only trained how to pierce but also in what to do if something goes wrong (from infection through to potentially fatal body-shock), blood pathology and on how to keep themselves, equipment and studios clean to the point where they are similar to a hospital theatre.

I personally find it disgusting when parents get their baby's ears pierced and wouldn't dream of risking infection or tearing of the lobe when it comes to my daughter. There is no significance to the age parents choose to have it done only that for some strange reason they think it looks cool or cute. I think also it has something to do with adults wanting/expecting children to grow up far too quickly like when they dress them in clothes I wouldn't even find appropriate for a teenager let alone a toddler. I don't know how they feel they have the right to make the decision of ear piercing for the child. It shouldn't be done until the child makes the choice herself.

Without parent consent the age is 16 (it was when I was 16), I feel that you should only allow children to have ears piereced when they are at an age to know that is what they want. When I was a little girl I wanted my ears pierced but was not allowed then. Now I am an in my early twenties I am glad I didn't.

they can have it at ANY age, there are no legal restrictions.
I think you should be old enough to choose for yourself i.e. not a small child or (horrors) a baby.
I recently saw a baby (about 12 months) SCREAMING in the salon having hers done. Why would people intentionally cause that pain unneccesarily to a baby? not to mention the possible infections, ripped earlobes when the child is playing? would these people tatoo a baby? whats the difference!

Sign of peer pressure at school...
Some peer pressure at school convinced my daughter to have them at 7-8 ish... then she had to learn to look after them, clean her ears, take them out... that was fun (subtext : not!)... I *cant* do it Dad... so let me have a go... No Dad.. no way.. And them putting them back in...
Cue swollen ear lobes... a pair of spoons left in the deep freeze was enough to deaden the pain to get them back in. Then she left them, at my house for the week when she went back to her Mums... and shen she revisited... Hmmm ... closed up... and she was glad of it...
The next couple of years, her older brothers gave her some horror stories about the pain, so she was put off having it done (She didnt need them at that age : my opinion as a grumpy old dad) ... but now shes 10 (and a half) shes had them re-done, can look after them ... no probs!

there is no legal age limit but personally i think 10 is a good age- they need to be able to take responsibility for cleaning their ears daily, turning the earrings etc

In the US the only restrictions are that the child most be over 3 mouths, with a parent or legal guardian, and show up dated shot records. I got my daughters ears pierced at 5 months. I personally think the younger the better. She was so young that she couldn't mess w/the new piercing. I've had friends who's children got theirs pierced at age 4 or up, the the kids would mess with them. The easiest thing to do would be to call your local ear piercing place (Walmart goes them now) and ask them what you might need.

I don't think there's an age limit, but I'd personally rather wait until she's old enough to decide for herself. Also, chunky jewellery can cause ripped ear lobes.

Usually, that's too long for me. I believe it depends on the guy as well as his face though. Certain guys can easily pull off long hair and other folks can't.
