She is 2 and I don't wan't to get her declawed for the simple reason I have other pets and want her to be able to defend her self. I have a cardboard catnip scracthing thing that just lies on the floor but her only interest in that is to roll on it and smell the catnip she has no interest in scratching that she only wants to scratch ALL the door frames in the house. Any help would be nice she is tearing up my doorways!!!

Kudos to you for not wanting to declaw your kitty!
As for saving your house, have you tried the carpeted scratching posts? This might sound silly, but have you tried showing her how to scratch on the carboard catnip thing? We have one of those for our cat, and she did the same thing for the longest time. She would then go attack my couch. So one day I took her and held her paws gently, and actually, physically took her through the motions of scratching the cardboard. It was like she had simply just not thought to do that...(my cat isn't overly bright...)
But if that doesn't work, try the carpet covered ones. If she doesn't like the carpet and seems to remain partial to the wood, try getting a wood post just for her to scratch. Just make sure she understands that that post is hers and that's she's to leave the door frames alone.
Also, invest in a small spray bottle. Every time you catch her scratching the door frames, give her a good squirt. She'll eventually learn.

please never declaw your cat, that would take something away from it, cats enjoy scratching i would think because why would they do it? there are heaps of scratching posts you can get for a cat some are wood some are carpet etc & its a play gym as well,& if you pick a good one your cat will climb all over it & have heaps of fun. There are some nice ones& you don't have to stop at one.
you may want to go further & buy a cheap piece of furniture from a flea market just for the cat ,depends how fussy you are.

or ask a vet if there is something you can rub on your doorways etc that will repel your cat from those areas.

I learned that cat's scent is in their paws. By them scratching and rubbing, they are realeasing their scent. I suggest you clean all the areas that the cat is scratching. You can try using sprays. I used an aerosol spray that I bought at Petco or Petsmart. It smelled horrible and I don't suggest it. Try the natural, chemical free ones. The main ingrediants are clove and garlic. To the human nose, you cannot smell it. I had that problem with my cat. She would tear up every corner of the carpet. I learned before I moved in there was another cat who lived in the apartment, so my cat was trying to cover the other one's scent. After a while, my cat became "immune" to the all natural spray. If that happens, make your own compound solution. I suggest you rub a little garlic or even cracked pepper mixed with water over the wood. The cats dont like it and eventually it will become learned behavior not to go near it.

Dont' get her declawed! That's mean!
Find or buy a piece of fire wood or a thick piece of wood with bark on it and stand it up in front of her favorite door frame. After she gets used to scratching on it, you can move it to an out of the way corner. Cat's seem to like real wood rather than fake cat toy things. You can also buy a spray to put on your door frames so it makes it unattractive to her. But get the piece of wood to give her an alternative.
Good luck!

Some cats are "up-scratchers" and some are "down-scratchers". Your kitty seems like the first variety so she would love a tall post with some sisal and carpeting to stretch up and scratch.

Really a $10 packet of Sticky Paws strips from the pet store should do nicely for the door frames. You get a lot of strips and they would pretty much take care of your house. They really don't show much at all. After about two months you can remove them.

If you get a nice post use catnip on that since she seems to like it and really praise her when she uses it. And I mean lay it on with a trowel. "Aren't you the world's nicest kitty!" You're so beautiful it is a pleasure to watch you!. "You're my honey-bunny, pumpy-umkin" She'll look at you like you're nuts and love the praise.

A good nail clipper will do a fine job. It is inexpensive
and can be found in any pet shop. My advice though is that
you make sure you are tought how to use it properly, since
cats and dogs have a nerve and blood vessels in their claws.
You must make sure you dont clip too far, since
cutting the nerve or blood vessel will result in acute pain and
blood shed. Hope this will help you.

don't declaw your cat . How would like your fingers chopped off.
LOL The next time you see your cat at any wood in your home.
Yell at your cat say " food time " Shake food box at the same time.
Do this evey time she or he does this , it may take a while but will work. .
You could also let your cat sniff bannas, tobasco sauce etc and give her or him a wiff the next time shw or he goes near wood.

Buy him a scratching post, or several of them & put them in different rooms of your house. I did this with my cat & he uses only the scratching posts to sharpen his claws, not my furniture or anything else. Good luck !

she must like the feel of the wood, rather than her cardboard post. get her a wooden scratching post. they have some that look like a tree trunk nailed to a piece of wood. maybe she'd like that.
