I'm having trouble holding her head still and then getting her beak to open up.

Wear a glove, be gentle, and always use the Beak end to administer anything. Patience is key,,,as is trust the bird has in you. Certainly speed is important as well,,,IE: The KEET opens its mouth to protest, The syringe is placed, the plunger is pushed, the deed is done,,, Then while you still hold the bird firm, a bit of cuddling and talking softly will not hurt.

You cup it's head and body in one hand, press the end of the syringe into it's beek until it begins to open it. Press the plunger rather quickly. Birds are hard to give medicine to. They generally flip most of the medicine out but that is normal. Don't give them more thinking it's not enough. Just give the dosage as the vet prescribed.

Here is a trick that has worked for me before.

What is your parakeets favorite treat? If you are able to get a little on the end of your syringe, she will come to associate the syringe with getting a treat. I've used baby bird formula, tiny pieces of apple or grapes, or dried papaya bits before. It will at least get her to not flap away squaking when she sees you coming at her with a syringe.

If you can get her to nibble on the end of it & take a treat. Fill it with her meds, then plug the end with a bit of fruit or treat, then try & get her to eat as much as possible.

Good luck to you!

You do it very carefully, cause your gonna get bite.....wrap him in a towel, with just his head sticking out, he's gonna put up a big
stink, just force his mouth open with the syringe and that's it....and afterword's
he'll pout...your not hurting him by doing this, your helping....
ooh, he will also scream like your killing him, don't be afraid....
if you can, have someone help you....good luck!!
