I think that perhaps some people are quite insecure. They attack others simply because they are afraid. If someone thinks differently or disagrees with them it seems to threaten their view of themselves.

To some degree the idea that there is a "best answer" in Yahoo Answers and that only one person can get the extra 10 points seems to encourage this hostile behavior.

I don't understand the insults and attacks either. In fact, it's THE one thing I really dislike about this site. Of course, not every person who visits Answers does that. If that were the case, I just wouldn't post here.

Some people though, seem to have a very difficult time respecting opposing viewpoints. We don't all have to agree on any one subject - we just need to have respect for the beliefs of others.

Most of the time, I love my visits to Answers. At other times though, there's alot of offensive crap to weed through here.

I was going to ask a similar question. I don't want to see anything from the perspective of someone who feels like putting down another person's beliefs is going to make their side look better...
Can't people just answer a question without an expletive or rude comment?

I understand what you are saying. First of all, it is not a Christian's place to judge anyone. It is not our place to say what is better or not. That is only God's. I am accountable for my own action and behaviors, as well as, everyone single other person walking and breathing this earth. When we start to think we are above others, or one religion is better than another's, we learn real quickly who is really in control-God!

I'm right there with you.

I almost felt physically sick when I first got on this site when I read all of the negativitiy.

I think people have too much trouble trying to celebrate differences instead of insulting people all of the time.

I try to only speak the truth.. Anyways religion is known for getting violent.. This verbal abuse is nothing compared to the war in the middle east... Ya know what they say though.. If ya can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen

You are right. To attack or insult another's faith is wrong.

However, it's permissible to say why you don't believe in another's faith and why you believe in yours. These are good subjects for civil, respectful debate. I think it's also permissible to get angry about evil things done in the name of religion, such as terrorism, or lies about war.

One of the books of Peter says to be ready to explain why you believe what you believe, but to do so with "gentleness and respect".

This site is relatively anonymous, therefore, people can say whatever they want without fear of retaliation.
