Hi,

Actually, Buddhism doesn't go against Christianity.

The key difference between both is that Buddhists do not believe in a God/ Creator whereas Christians do believe in one.

However, I don't see a conflict. As in the meetings between the Dalai Lama and other spiritual leaders, they always say that fundamentally, all religions understand that all beings seek happiness. Their religions are just different means to an end.

Incorrect. The fundamental core of Buddhism teaches that you are equal with all other beings. There is no diety who is above you, making rules and judgments. For this reason, it will go against Christian teachings.

New age Christian teachings talk about "the god within", which is a very close feel to Buddhist doctrine of everyone being enlightened to begin with.

Ah, that's another point. Christianty teaches original sin. Buddhism teaches that we are originally enlightened, and that our life struggles (karma) that we face are lessons that we chose to engage in, in order to work on our own flaws, but also to inspire other people to reach their own enlightenment.

I haven't really studied Buddhism, so I really couldn't say. I do know though that a lot of Buddhists have respect for some of the Christian mystics. Thomas Merton is quite popular among Buddhists. It's possible that it doesn't go against Christianity, but I am not qualified to make that as a statement of fact.

They don't worship anything, Fireball. And the one below her, too. They focus on self-enlightenment. Nothing in Buddhism forbids the worship of any god a Buddhist might choose.

Telling someone they are going to hell for their beliefs is simply incorrigible. It is also ineffective, since most beliefs outside of Christianity lack the concept of a hell.

To clarify, Buddhists do NOT worship the statue of Buddha. It is merely a symbol of their goal, which is to achieve perfect balance, happiness, and tranquility.

how can they go against each other when they don't share the same ideas. There isn't anything wrong with Buddhism or Christianity. They can co-exist peacefully.

I'm christian and asian, where buddism seems to be preached as a religion. I've studied with buddists and monks and come to learn that buddism is NOT a religion. Your not worshipping a god, or a little statue. It's a way of life. The main point of buddism is to find inner peace with yourself, and it stresses highly that if you find inner peace with christianity, buddism urges you to practice that. It doesnt say believe in a budda god. It only teaches you how to live more peacefully in whatever you decide to believe. It teaches sanctity and purpose in your life. So to see that buddism is described as a religion, study and realize that it's not.

Buddhism goes with the Zen: Everything happens for a reason and everything is in balance.
Christianity says there is only one way to "enlightenment": through Christ.

Buddhism is not a religion. They don't worship any god. But of course it is strange to Christians and they certainly wouldn't want to be tolerant of others!!!
