As an only child, I can tell you it is something you will never know or understand. Conversely, kids who have siblings will never know what it is like to be an only child.
However, like any relationship, some of them are good and some of them are bad, but most of them are mixed.
As the years go bye you will periodically be amazed at what brothers and sisters do to each other - both good and bad and have no real idea what could possibly have caused it.
However, on balance, I would say it is better to have siblings, except if the parents have some money. Then there are usually disagreements about who should get what or not get what and if they die without making an iron clad distribution of it, and sometimes not even then, there are usually fights over who gets what, that often lead to everlasting hatreds, which you will also not understand.

i have 7 siblings ( 8 actually our sister died a long time ago ) and i am the youngest of all
so i can tell you that my older siblings ranging from 20 years older too 10 are nice people but they have looked down on me all my life because i am the youngest
some of my older siblings were already old enough and had moved out by the time i was born and i can safely say that it was like " oh mom had another kid big deal " :P my older siblings on occasion would talk to me about stuff and try to teach me to see things their way ( it didn't work i was my own person and will always be :P )
my two siblings - my brother is 28 and my sister is 27 are the best Friends i could ever have because they are so close to my age they were treated the same way as i was and could relate
my brother Andrew is my best Friend in the world always will be too :P i even named my son after him :D ( just " Andy " though )
thanks for asking this question i enjoyed answering it :)
have a great day

It's like having a best friend and worse nightmare all rolled together and living in your house. When your young you fight and think that the other has it better or more....there is jealously, fighting, tons of laughter and someone to play around with all the time. There is alot of competitiveness for attention from Mom & Dad and yet, your sibling can be your best partner in getting around the rules or getting out of a chore. You love them and hate them....sometimes you can't even be friends or in the same room. You go on the best trips together and get grounded together. They stick up for you when bullies come around and are the first one's there to make fun of you when you goof up. My "little" brother (he's alot taller than me now) lives 10 hours away from me and I miss him every day....I would have never made it through my teen problem years without him....and I value him more now than ever. The best part of having a brother is knowing that if I ever need him...all I have to do is call. Anytime anywhere. And I treasure that as I get older.
