Religion has proved to be a breeding groung for hate, war, failed governments, sexism, lies. What makes islam such a brainwash. It doesn't seem like a whole lot of fun to be a muslim...especially if you are a women. When will people stop being religious? If ever. and what is that crazy stampede thing muslims do at Meccha? That seems so unintelligent.

Islam is a beatiful religion which is pretty much has everything a Muslim should do in this world and the next world. The reason is that Muslims are so fundie about the religion is b/c many of them see the beauty and bliss from God. You must understand that these Muslims are fighting/Jihad on "infidels" b/c:
1. Persecution and Unjustice done by Bad Non-Muslims
2. To see a better future for ALL (this means Non-Muslims as well)
Anyway, Muslims that are meant to kill are the bad and those who have done bad. According to Islam, those who attacked you first then you can attack. So, it makes sense that many Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan are thinking that they are being attacked so they attack and/or Americans feel that they are being attacked just because of democracy and to teach it to the people.
I think you unjustly called Islam so hateful and unjust. I just don't get anyone. Women in Islam are pretty much happy with the way they live. Yes, it is mandatory for women to wear Hijab but you see if you are Muslim then you can see yourself what I really mean when you are happy.
The circling in Mecca is a practice that they should go around 7x. Well, if you think that is so crazy then so you are calling Judaism and Christianity. The Jews 4000 years back use to go around the Temple of Solomon (Arabic: Beit al Muqaddas) and Jesus (peace be upon him) also done it himself.

An emperor once said that everything the Prophet Mohammad brought was evil "such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."
So, originally, the peasants were scarred into submission... since then, it's just been a brainwash passed down from family to family, generation after generation. It's just another method in which to keep the peasants, the uneducated, and the poor, submissive to a totalitarian government!
It's just another man-made religion; not put forth by God!
Their god is a false god, and their "religion" is a false religion!
I mean really, what kind of a god would offer mere mortal man over seventy virgins for blowing themselves up along with others not of the Muslim faith? How absurd!
Our God, (the "real" God), is a God of love.

Sexism (Gee, men and women wanting to get laid- who'd have thought it?) Lies (Go read "The Prince" by Machavalli)
Obviously you have not taken the time to study world history- or you would realize the above.
However, to answer your quesiton- Westerners belive in God because they've been raised in a relatively sheltered existance.
We don't have to fight for our religious rights- if you've taken the time to read the Constitution you would know this.
In the mideast, they have spent thousands of years fighting over the same dirt, they have fought over the same natural resources, and because of their governments, they have fought over different religious texts.
Part of understanding Islam, is that it is expected that every true believer will make a Pilgrimage to Mecca.
Now, the bottom line of your quesiton is- why do they believe so strongly? Because in both Christian and Islamic beliefs if you do not believe, you will burn in a huge lake of fire for eternity.

this is largely a nature vs. nurture question utilized to faith. If "god" supposedly created the international, inclusive of our organic tendencies then why wouldnt we settle for god from beginning? this is easily fairly exciting, and that i might want to like to envision a logical non secular answer. I dont position self belief in any faith so I cant even initiate to fathom how someone is going to logically clarify this one. Oh, and to Catti-brie. . . . undesirable undesirable analogy. If something, it quickly helps the dude's theory that nurture is what shapes a persons'' faith, not nature. edit: mcshughes, speech is organic because this is our developed type of verbal substitute. verbal substitute is organic and discovered from beginning. children can use signal language and CRYING to get their element for the era of. I have personally known several Muslims over the years. They were not enthusiastic. They were born into it and grew up in it, and they are stuck with it. They don't necessarily like it, but will defend it. Back in their home countries, they could be executed if they left their religion.
