I don't see why it wouldn't.

However, you might want to try being more specific. What kind of meditation do you want to try? What do you want to get out of it? Some people meditate to relieve stress; others meditate to purify the mind. How well it "works" depends on what you want from it and how you practice it.

"Power without control is nothing" this phrase was on an advertising campaign for car tyres thought it very appropriate here. Yes you meditate, however briefly at the end of most classes, and in the heat of battle (in the zone) when you have a single point of concentration - beating the other guy. So you already have experience of this mind exercise by single pointedly focusing your mind. Just like you had experience of exercise before you ever did a martial arts class. It is important to do this practise

Absolutely. It is a way to train the mind to fucus, thus allowing for greater concentration in learning and greater retention of techniques. It also helps to keep the mind relaxed, and thus the body. This helps to reduce the number of strains and pulled muscles in training. The relaxation also helps to increase the reflexes and reduce reaction time by removing tensin in the muscles. This means that it takes less effort to execute techniques and increases speed and stamina by making the techniques more efficient. In fact, the practice of Kata, or forms is a type of dynamic meditation as well as a means of physical conditioning, and a method of memorizing techniques. The best examples of this are in the practice of Tai Chi and Chi Gong.

Meditation is an essential part of traditional martial arts as it teaches you to find your center and to be in touch with that part of you which reacts fastest to an attack.
