My lips are very dry, red and sore and cracked at the sides but I've nothing in the house to soothe them! Most shops are shut now so I can't go out and get something either

I've no vaseline in the house but looks like I'm off to buy some in the morning. I don't even know why they're like this. The weather is not even that cold yet!

Chapped Lips
First, chuck your Chapstick. Conventional lip balms contain petroleum and sometimes alcohol, both of which dry the sensitive skin on your lips. Instead, moisturize and protect your parched, peeling lips with castor oil. Carry a small squeeze bottle of the oil and apply it with your finger often throughout the day. If you plan to be out in the sun, use a natural petroleum- and alcohol-free balm with an SPF of 15 a few minutes after rubbing in the castor oil.

If as you say you cannot run out to buy vaseline, which works best, you may have some butter in the fridge. Let if soften, and apply.
Am suggesting since you asked for a home remedy. Your best bet is to get some vaseline in the morning. Dont lick your lips too often, it dries them further.

Use a very comfortable exfoliation technique including a very mushy toothbrush or a washcloth as somebody else mentioned. There are additionally some lip products that are meant to exfoliate yet i think of the toothbrush is superb. After exfoliation, word Vaseline. Use Vaseline each and every evening religiously! and verify your lips are secure in the process the day with a moisturizing lipstick or a lip balm with a extreme SPF. carry it to reapply regularly.

Vaseline is the best. Apply some on your lips overnight every night for a few days. It should help a lot but the way you are describing your lips it won't unfortunately cure them straight away.

I get the same problem during winter seasons.
Make an effort to drink a good amount of water regularly throughout a day (like a cup every few hours).
A little bit of vaseline is good too.

It sounds like you hae no vasaline in the house. So the best thing in the house you can use if you have any is Olive Oil - Marie Helvin the model only uses that as a body/face moisturiser. If you have no Olive Oil you could use veg oil for tonight - not enough to taste it, just enough to moisturise your lips.

I fully agree with willow, don't use any petrolium based products as they draw the moisture out of your lips and male them worse. A spot of natural oil such as castor or olive oil will work well. also avoid licking your lips, and use a scarf to cover your mouth in the cold and wind.
