When I'm homeschooling the tv is not allowed to be on. We do alot of fun stuff. We go to the library and read books, we get on the internet and play alot of learning games. funbrain.com and schoolexpress.com are great. There are alot more. You could also play games that are educational. You can go outside and do projects. Google some homemade science experiments and do atleast one a week. There are alot of of sites you can get curriculum for free and do worksheets. He is at a good age to teach him what you want him to know. Talk to him and find out what he likes to do.Work on the positive things he will do and forget for now the things he won't do. You may not have finished school, but you can still teach him. If you are not willing to do these things then you two should talk about going to public school.

You need to give him some motivation-- "When you finish your math and science, you can watch TV for thirty minutes" or "If you get in all your school for this week we can go to the zoo on Saturday", etc.
You do not need to be an expert teacher for him to learn either, there are plenty of curriculums made for homeschooling. There are many books that you can read the lessons out of and he will learn. There are also ways to contact the authors of the books and they will help you if you don't understand. Don't give up!

Sit him in his room and say that he only has to do one assignment, and then he can watch TV or whatever. Two days later, two assignments. Two days later, three assignments.
Also, lead by example. Maybe the two of you could read together? Not necessarily you to him, but in the same room. Try reading instead of watching TV, or doing some math problems while he's doing his.

He needs to go back to school since you can't seem to get his butt out of in front of the tv and your wife won't. Put him back in school before he falls to far behind.

Get him into school. If you don't like public, him being in school all day may free you up for employement so you could afford private school.

i suggest you put him in a public school if you can't teach him. He will get taught there, no watching tv.
