They're trying to make it a year, but it doesn't always work out that way. Especially if a PCS comes up. Several have gotten home, PCSed and gotten to a unit that was leaving within the next few months. There's many variable to the rotations to Iraq. They're trying to stabilize it, but things keep changing and it doesn't seem to work.

They generally try to give a year in between. My husband is in the 101st Airborne and they had a year between deployments. But that all depends on the unit and other variables. When the war first started, 3rd Infantry Division went to Afghanistan, came home briefly, then straight to Iraq. So they got more than a year before they went to Iraq again. But there's one unit right now that started to come home after a year, then got extended. There were about 300 guys home already and they packed them up and sent them back after only 2 weeks. It all depends on the needs of the army and the situation on the ground in Iraq.

It doesn't matter. Some people who deployed, came back and got assigned to a new unit that deployed 2 months after they got back. Some people managed to make it to full bird Col. and deployed only 3 times in their 20+ year career. It's Russian Roulette. The first statement I made may be the only 2 times some of those soldiers may ever deploy in their career and it just happened to be back to back. Look on the bright side of things, think of all the extra money!

there are no hard and fast rules. Say you are stationed at one base, and deploy for 12 months. say you return back to the States at the end of that deployment and get stationed at another base.. and THAT unit is due to deploy in 2 months. guess what.. off you go again in 2 months.

Depends on how fast the Army can process you.
The Army is its own victim when it comes to paperwork. When you arrive from overseas you have to run through a specific bureaucracy. There's training, equipment exchange, more training, paper pushing. While all this happens you have to carry on with whatever it is you do for the Army. Maybe you are due at your regimental home for your BNOC or ANOC, etc. Before you know it you have burned at least six months.
Even if it puts its mind to it, I doubt the Army can turn around a whole unit back overseas in less than six months.

I have people that i work with that just came back in August and are deploying again in October. some of them volunteered but most did not. we have buckets and they designate the time frame when you are eligible to deploy. so if your bucket is up and you just returned odds are your going again.
