DH's F150 broke down yesterday. The window got stuck down, so at a red light he turned off the engine and re-started the truck, thinking maybe it would go up once he turned it back on. Well, once he did that, the truck would not go into gear. After blocking traffic for 45 minutes the tow truck showed up and we had it towed to the dealership because it was the only shop open on Saturday. They can't look at it until Monday. Any ideas on what it could be?

It could be a coincidence that the window motor and the shifter interlock solenoid both went out at the same time. Only further diagnosis would tell. If the brake lamps did not work either when it would not come out of park, then I would fault the brake switch. The only thing I can see in common with the power window and the shifter interlock is they both use the same ground to the body, which is ground #200. Perhaps the ground is not making good connection causing both to fail. The dealer will have a complete diagnosis for you.

My guess is you have a few problems...

My guess on the shift interlock, is the fuse blew due to a short somewheres, most likely in the shift handle but could be in other places also

the window being stuck down could be a number of things including the motor or the fact that the switch was bad or the fuse or a related fuse blew also (my guess is motor or switch... hit up on the switch numerous times and see if it will go up)

On both the best advice is a diagnosis from the dealer as I'm only guessing

But the truck wasn't stuck..most people don't know the wrecker driver/mechanics secret (not really a secret as I think it's in the owners manual)

turn the key to the first click (the off position) and holding your foot on the brake, put it in neutral and start.. as long as you don't put it in park again, the vehicle can be driven to a mechanic shop as this method bypasses the shift interlock and steering wheel interlock also

If he tried turing the key just a little from the off postion it should go into gear, it is a feature for such instances. I would guess the brake light switch or fuses caused the shifter problem, as far as the window, could just be the motor.

Man DH has a problem HUH!
I wold wait and see.
The window issue could be a switch or motor the gear issue could be the piece that allows the truck to be put into drive when pressin the brake....
