I was dreaming and a little bit fast driving through Alaska. Police stopped me and asked me to pay some dollars and later on i realized that i got some point as well. I am living in Pennsylvania and the questions is: Are the points transferred (US DOT database) and visible in PA as well or is it a State independent system? Of course I am not planning to drive above speed limits but sometimes my foot is too heavy.

@Joey Bagadonuts - you are right that it was no DUI - but who told you?

Some states DO transfer points from motor vehicle violations. You have to determine if Alaska is a signatory to the "Non-Resident Violator Compact."

Alaska is NOT a signatory.

The only states that are not part of the Interstate Compact are Alaska, California, Michigan, Montana, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

Looks like you're in luck :-)

Check these 2 places if you don't believe me.

*ps...I know you didn't get a DUI ticket. It's the same set of laws.

*EDIT--Steve, there are TWO compacts. The one he's concerned with is the "Non Resident Violator Compact". Alaska is NOT a signatory. Check both sites I posted. They'll both confirm that.

*BEERHAND*......I knew because your post said you were speeding.....it said nothing about a DUI.

Points don't transfer. They are placed on you license by the state that issued it. The question should be "Will PA assign points for a ticket issued by AL?" I don't know the answer. I do know some states will suspend your license for some offenses in other states.

I checked the link Joey Bagadonut... provided about the 'Non-Resident Violator Compact' and found the following sentence:
The states of Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee and Wisconsin are not part of this compact.

It looks like AL is a signator.

No, they can't give you points because you don't have an Alaska license. But yes, you will get nailed: by the insurance agency. The insurance agency checks all states for history of moving violations, and they fill find your out of state tickets and raise you rates accordingly.
