Take it and if you get no relief get to a hospital asap as it is probably not angina but could be a heart attack. Better to call an ambulance as it helps try to remain as recumbant and relaxed as possible.

Do not panic however because it can be other things but one of the symptoms of a heart attack is that it is not releived by nitro or rest. Another difference between angina and heart attack is the length of time.

Whoever prescribed the nitro should have informed you of these things.

Bound's hubby here:

Well ... I am a heart patient. My cardiologist told me that when I get chest pain (tightness, numbness, etc.) to take my nitro. He also said, that if I have to take the nitro more than 3 times in an hour, to get to the hospital ... no ifs, ands, or buts!

Remember, angina is nothing more than heart pain. You should not be waiting for answers here, you should be on the way to the hospital ... don't drive yourself like my grandfather did 40 years ago ... rely on the local ambulance ... it is safer and better equipped than your personal auto.

Perhaps you are not having a heart attack, but with the symptoms you are describing, something is not right. I am surprised that your cardiologist or G.P., if they did prescribe nitro, did not tell you when to use it! Your health is too important to him-haw with! See the Doc now ... your family will thank you for that! Take the time to be sick ... they can fix you when you have the warning signs!

Take a nitro and get to the doctor or ER or call 911....why are you waiting??? This is not anything to play with. Perhaps you need more than the nitro but if you don't get help immediately you're on a disastrous road. Please go NOW!
