No, he is not odd at all (my friend's dog used to eat the onions in her vegetable stand...) - usually it is because they have some kind of deficiency in their diet. Only give him food that is well balanced (those you buy at the vet are usually the best) and it is also good to put some vegetable oil over his food at least twice a week.

Hi,
You are not the only one with a weird dog, I assure you.
My Boxer licks the coal department as it gives him carbon intake, and a bit of natural salts, he explained to me.
I sort of speak dog now & then.
My pigs will eat their own testicles, when castrated, which is by far a more disturbing thing to behold.
So we should consider ourselves lucky perhaps.

Dogs lick for a number of reasons.
1.) they lack something in their diet.
2.) they are board.
3.) they are nervous.
4.) they just like to lick.

Dogs love the taste of oxidized copper and they also like the taste of coal,dont worry my dog loves the taste of human flesh and bites everyone constantly.If nothing else your dog will never have rusty teeth.

Dogs like eating coal! My neighbours have an outdoor BBQ and everytime their dog goes out, he picks up a piece of coal and chews it!

its ok ur not the only one with a very strange dog my staffy runs around the room chasing his shaddow then stands and stares at it for a while and starts licking the place where his shadow is, its hard trying to get them to stop doing it

sometimes they just like the taste or texture. my dog likes to lick fabric, he'll sit there and lick at his bed or carpet for like 15 mins. so your not the only one with an odd dog.

LOL! That's the best question I've read all day!! I wouldn't worry about it. All dogs are a bit odd I think. Mine likes to sniff along the setee. I think it's because he can smell himself on it!!??!

Dogs will lick metal because they think they're getting minerals from them. if it bothers you, or you think it might hurt the dog, try blocking it with some cardboard.
