I like Winamp, VLC media player is a good alternative, very light so everything loads and plays quickly.

Try out the Windows Media Player one more time and, if you don't like it, then there is RealPlayer, which can be downloaded free from http://www.download.com and both players have access to their respective music & video stores.

It is definitely VLC, as this media player seems to play all formats, and doesn't require codex to be downloaded, and a lot of time wasted doing so.

The best media player for music is winamp, its free, online radio, LOTS of plugins you can download, including ones to play snes, gba, gb nes, and n64 music files!! nullsoft disk writer plugin lets you record whatever audio you play in it!! latest version is 5.08c, good luck with it!

I like Media Player Classic. It plays all sorts of files, including DVD's.
Its small, loads quick, and dosn't have loads of extras weighing it down!

Also get Quick time alternative and it will play Quick time files in MPC.

Another vote for VLC here. Simple to use, plays pretty much anything you throw at it without fail, and also HIGHLY adjustable if you want to mess around in its preferences.
