Isn't it crazy when cartoons and the words of the Pope lead to violence and hysteria? Does this say something about the LACK of freedom and tolerance in Muslim countries?

Maxima, may I too answser your question by referring to Poki Poki.........He is the one who asked for a moment of thought for the victims of 9/11 and stated 'ask God to forgive them' referring to the victims - not the terrorists. You can check his question if you doubt me. He, in another, asked for Muslim jokes, and one answer is the longest answer/statement/sermon I have ever seen in Answers. If it was a joke, I did not get a laugh out of it. It was practically a summary of the Koran. And they have the cheek to talk of Free Speech and deny the Pope the right to quote a Turkish Emperor from six hundred years ago..........

Come on people, any sect that prohibits any rights for the female gender can't be all good. Here in the USA we can call the President a nut. Try that in a Muslim country and you would lose your tounge at the least and perhaps your life. All Muslim led countries surpress free speech to prevent people from making choices. Such as, who will lead them, where they can live, what movies they can watch. where they can go to school, how they can dress, etc.etc.

Let's not be pointing fingers! The Pope is a role model for millions of people all over the world. He has an obligation to be an example of correct behavior. He has just given millions of his followers the okay to be disrespectful of other religions. We have enough disrespect in the world right now, we don't need poor examples from those in power.

What he said may have been *only* a quote, but his choice of sources was very poor. The Arabs know much more about Christian Crusaders than Catholics in the west.

The very first answer (by one "Poki Poki") on this question poses a huge dilemma for those who call for moderation. The world, especially in Europe and key areas of Asia, has moved beyond the medieval concepts of total obedience and fear of "holy men."

Yes, Poki, we MUST allow discourse that insults not only prophets and scriptures, but even ridicules the gods themselves. To the degree you can't accept that, you are a member of the backward trend engulfing both Islam and Christianity. Christian and Muslim believers in democracy should fight every attempt to establish any more theocracies. And they should overthrow existing ones.

it really is a blatant misrepresentation of both communities. even as one crew is unpopular (which comprise leftists) the media has a tendency to portray them as violent hypocrites. fairly maximum leftist protests are very nonviolent. this is in basic terms the violent or unusual ones that capture the interest of the media. on the grounds that they are exciting. and definitely ANY rebellious lifestyle (like the tea party stream) has a tendency to have violent undertones...a number of those conservative activists even further attack guns to authorities homes...for sure not all correct wing activists are passionate about guns, those were very few incidences that the media exceeded off to capture to make all of them look loopy even as maximum of them are not loopy.

I flush all the holy books of Christians and Muslims every singe day.
They don't mind free speech, but free speech from a leader of a religion nation is not quite as free as our free speech because they are speacking on behalf of their nation.

Because they are not use to the idea of free speech. They have been oppressed for centuries...and told exactly what to do and how to do it. Not what the Qu'ran teaches but what man teaches. Men (humans) will pervert things for themselves.

I only know that my salvation was a free gift from the living God through the blood of Jesus.

I don't live in fear of my salvation, I am sealed in the book of life.

God / Jesus ROCKS!!!

If Poki Poki is against free speech he should prove it by NOT TALKING.

If he continues to feel that he has a "right" to express his opinion then everyone else has the right to insult his false god and false prophet.

This is a great example of how it would be living under sharia law. They have no free speech.
