I just don't have the patience to rummage through the second hand stores looking for the jem pieces, or the right sizes.

I personally do not buy at gargae sales or get hand-me-downs, but there is nothing at all wrong with those that do. I really like the Children's Place, Gap and Old Navy. I am very thankful that I am financially capable of buying my son those kinds of clothes and being able to save for his college education at the same time. I know everyone does not have that same luxury, though. Just personal preference of where I shop.

I just don't like the idea of buying clothes that someone else has worn. I try to shop sales and look for bargains. You can find good prices at Old Navy and also at Gymboree when things are on sale. I bought a bunch of t-shirts that were on clearance from J. Crew and they were really cheap. You can find cute stuff that is new and not outrageously priced if you make the effort. Also, shop the end of season clearance sales to buy things a size bigger for the following year.

Most of my clothes as a kid were from Goodwill or Salvation Army. My mom also shopped at garage sales. That never bothered me until one time she bought a shirt from another family from our town (normally she garage saled in a much bigger town). I loved that shirt and wore it on the first day of school. The little girl who owned it before me announced in front of everyone that it used to be her shirt and all my clothes were used. I think that made me feel that my kids wouldn't wear garage sale clothes and I won't go to Goodwill as long as I can buy decent clothes at stores like Target. I do have my daughter in hand-me-downs right now, but they are from a cousin who she doesn't see very often.

I buy my son most of his clothes new. I find it too hard to look around for "bargins" at good will and salvation army, not saying that there is anything wrong with that, I just don't have the time or patience.

I usually buy my kids new clothes, but there are some really great consignment shops that sell name brand slightly used clothes.

My sister buys her kids new stuff b/c we did the hand me down thing growing up. I don't agree with it, but it's her kids. She complains how she's always broke, but insists on buying her 2year old hundred dollar shoes . . .can't figure it out b/c when they're 0-5, it's the parents decision what they wear. They should not have a choice in the matter.

I dont want my baby wearing clothes that other kids have worn before, especially when you dont know the family and how clean they were. I also think new clothes look nicer, I dont want her wearing clothes that look old. I dont spend a ton of money on my daughter's clothes, but I wouldn't buy used unless I was broke and had no choice. I guess if I had a friend who had a little girl who gave me something, maybe I'd let me daughter wear it. But my friends and I usually donate the clothes to Goodwill when our girls outgrow them.

I think its funny that you all insist on buying "new" cloths that your child will only wear for 3 months at the most. I will bargain shop off of the clearance aisle, and I will never turn down hand me downs. If they are stained... then I wont use them. Old or over used... then I will give them to someone else. The funny thing is, you are all being materialistic. Just because your child wears Gucci or Polo doesn't make him or her any more cute than a kid wearing hand me down old navy... us "Poor people" as someone put it... are just smarter about how we spend our money..
