Generally speaking, religions don't scare me. I would probably be a little freaked out if I came across a group that believes in doing something like sacrificing an underage virgin to the sky god on the first full moon of the summer, but I'm not sure that very many (if any) of those types of people exist anymore. If they are around, they can't be too great in number, because we almost never hear about them. I definitely am scared of religious people who believe in blowing themselves up in order to kill dozens upon dozens of people, and in doing so believing that they will go straight to Heaven and be rewarded with a large number of maidens.

I am a little annoyed by people who interpret vague doctrines and writings a certain way and expect everyone to follow what they think it means. I have an example in mind, but I won't mention any specific names--I'll just say that he is based in Louisville, Kentucky and is president of a seminary. Overall, as a Christian, I believe in treating others the way you would want to be treated and following other basic moral codes. I also believe in having respect for diversity and differences in ideas. I have no problem at all with religious people of that nature.

I get where you are going with this statement, but it seems to me you are making way too broad of a generalization. In all likelihood, you also probably subscribe to some sort of religion yourself, here I am using the term to mean a set of beliefs. If not, you would fall under the category of an atheist, however, it seems to me that this is as much believing in something as it is to be a Catholic. I suppose the point I am trying to make is that we all base our actions around some sort of doctrine, either imagined within our minds as to what is right or regurgitated based on what someone else told us that someone else once imagined (Bible, Koran, etc.). In general it seems to me that the basic purpose of religions was originally to spread basic human traits such as peace, love, order, and stability. These are all things people continue to need, and if peoples actions reflect these values they could be a devote Christian or a devote believer in the devil or an atheist and it makes no difference to me. A decently sane conversation about the values we exhibit in our everyday lives is all that is really necessary to avoid religions, or any other set of beliefs, being seen as scary.

Everyone has a religion. Everyone is religious. Some religions set God as the ultimate authority, some set up man as the ultimate authority, some set up nature as the ultimate authority, and some may set up wealth as the ultimate authority. We all have a god of some kind that rules over our lives. There's no escape from it.

In a nutshell, we'd all be scary because we all have a religion.

However, I will say that fanatic people who cry 'GO TO HELL SINNER!' or kill in the name of their religion are very scary people.

Well I'm Christian and no religion doesn't scare me. But some religious people do scare me cause they're just extremeist and that's just annoying and weird.

I'm more of an open minded christian. I guess since that's what all my friends think of me. Most of them get shocked to hear I am Chrisitian.

Personally I don't care what religion u are, I think religion should be how u interpret it and u shouldn't push ur religion unto others.

When you say religion, it seems that you are referring to the ritualistic types of religions. Many religions have a set number of laws that must be obeyed - placing rules and regulations on their religion.

I think way too many people incorrectly place Christiananity into this category.

As a Christian I believe in God, and have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. As Christians, we DON'T have a list of laws that must be obeyed - The Christian faith is based on Jesus and our acceptance of Him being our Lord and Savior.

However, because of our love for Him we DO try to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to Him. What is scary about that?

No. I study religions, despite not properly having one myself, and I find religious people the most interesting to talk to. A person's view on their religion says a lot about a person, more than perhaps anything else.

Man, I am such a ridiculous anthropologist. Someday someone will be holding a gun to my head yelling "Convert or die!" and I'll be asking about the intricacies of their religion.

why?, do they scare you?.
In general, i chat with people who were forced to be religious when they were children and grew up with this antichristian resentment, i hope this is not your case, and they also try to be offensive with those who are believers. Those people are sometimes scared or put in defensive position to every thing related to christianity.
I respect both, but i dont see why i should be scare of them

Not all religions scare me. Buddhism, for example, fascinates me. It is religious fanatics that infuriate me. What scares the hell out of me, is religion in the law. Glad to see you here.
