what dog is the best?

i want to get a dog but i need to know what kind would be the best for keeping inside when you are gone or at night

this question isn't a good one to ask like this bcuz everyone will have their own opinions. like mine would be to get a large dog like a German Shepherd, a Labrador Retriever, or a Golden Retriever. my friend, on the other hand, only wants little dogs (yaphounds in my opinion) like chihuahuas, yorkies, and pugs. what you need to do is make a list of all the aspects you want (size, hair length, color, etc.) then go through a dog encyclopedia and check out the different things you want/don't want. the really stupid thing to do is say, oh I love small dogs, get a Yorkie, then not be able to take the time to brush it every day. don't pick one JUST on what it looks like- take time to study the different needs and habits of the breeds you think you might want. good luck- dogs are my best friends!!! =)

A german shepard is the best they will protect you and your house and they are very good with kids too. i had one and we left for awile and we found wires out of our vcr (this was long time ago b4 dvds) anyway our dog ran this guy off because the vcr was still there and the way our house was desined the tv and vcr were right next to the door so it would of been very easy for the burgler to take the tv or vcr so my dog stopped him from taking it. bc the wires were left hanging but the vcr was still there next to the tv where we left. so German shepard is the best dog to protect families and houses.
He was an inside dog when we had him. but we did have a yard that he could go outside when he wanted. It was not a huge yard but not to small either.

Any small or medium breed would be fine. The solution is the CRATE. If you can't trust your dog to behave when alone a crate is the solution. I foster dogs of various breeds and generally keep them in the crate at least the first night until I know I can trust them. Contrary to some opinions, dogs often consider crates their safety place.

If you go to www.animalplanet.com It'll take you to discovery then click animal planet on the left. And if you look it has a quiz saying which dog best fits your lifestyle. Beagles love to roam so I don't think that would be best even though they are wonderful dogs.
I would say A Smooth Fox Terrier. I have one thats mixed but she is clever and pretty smart. Also, a Boston Terrier. I have two of them. And they make wonderful pets. But it's best to house train them as soon as you can.

Chihuahuas are nice because they need little exercise and a naturally indoor dogs. Con: they don't like to be left alone and sometimes have trounle with kids. Shih Tzu and Lhasa's are good indoors and don't mind being left alone for a bit. Con: they need lots of grooming. My advice? Go to the pound and adopt a small dog and teach him well. he will love you forever and be thrilled to have a home to stay in. Good luck!

Toy poodle. No question. Toy poodles are extremely intellegent and very easy to train...

I have a one bedroom apt, and my puppy has a crate and an exercise pen in the corner with plenty of toys. obviously you need to take him out for excercise, but i litterbox trained him so that i could have a social life! good luck.

A miniature pinscher is good. They aren't very active at night but they do need some exirsise for 30 minutes a day.
