Some believe in gods. Mahayana Buddhism says that there are three Buddhas that act as gods: the Amitabha Buddha, the Gautama Buddha, and some other Buddha. That is, however, an offshoot of Buddhism. The original, Theravada Buddhism says that there are no gods.

Someone are saying you must mean Hinduism. Hinduism only has one G-d. The statues that you see are different aspects of this
G-d. It is like in Islam and Judaism----there is only one G-d, but there are many names for him, depending on what essence of him you are referring to.

Yeah, unless your teacher is even more stupid than I think he/she is, I believe he/she meant Hinduism. And, according to Christian doctrine, they do indeed worship pagan gods. Please tell me you go to a Chistian school because if you heard this in a public school I'm going to have to leave for Mars sooner than planned.

Edit: Yes, Chani, Hinduism does only have one god but most people, especially someone ignorant enough to say that Hindus worship pagan gods, don't know this. It is a good point though.

Buddhists do not worship any specific set of gods. You are free to worship whatever you choose, if you feel you need to. Many Buddhists also belong to other religions, Jewish, Christian, Pagan, etc

Uh, no. Buddhists don't worship a darn thing. They use the terminology of gods, but it holds a different meaning, and they certainly wouldn't worship them.

No, they don't worship any gods.

Well, most don't. The Tibetans have all sorts of deities they incorporated into Buddhism, but other schools like Zen have none.

Buddhists don't necessarily worship at all. Where did your school get this silly notion? Do you live in Afghanistan?

Buddhism is about spirituality... self-realization; not 'worship'. I'm curious, though... if they did happen to worship gods, why would that be any more ridiculous than Christianity?

Buddhism doesn't teaches to worship anything, but it doesn't forbid you to do so either.
